Welcome to

Our Spring Topic is...

Beyond Harbury

This term, our topic is Beyond Harbury, a geography-focused unit where we will explore the similarities and differences between Harbury and other parts of the world. Our main focus will be on America, comparing its landscapes, culture, and way of life to our own. With it being a World Cup year, we will also be learning about the tournament—exploring the different countries and states hosting matches, as well as the economic impact such a global event can have on a location. We will also consider the extensive planning and organisation required to host an event of this scale.

In Maths, we will be focusing on consolidation following SATs. This will include strengthening key skills and ensuring that all children feel confident and well-prepared for the transition to high school, with a particular emphasis on problem-solving and reasoning.

In English, we will be studying The Ice Bear by Jackie Morris during the first half of the term, followed by Paradise Sands by Levi Pinfold. These high-quality texts will inspire a range of creative and analytical writing opportunities.

In PE, we will begin with tag rugby and athletics before moving on to cricket and football later in the term, helping to build teamwork, fitness, and sportsmanship.

This term is also packed with exciting events as we celebrate the end of primary school. These include our school production (to be revealed soon!), the leavers’ trip, leavers’ T-shirts, yearbooks, and our final church service. It’s a special and memorable time for our Year 6 pupils, with plenty of fun and learning to look forward to!

Spirituality

At Harbury, spirituality is noticing and reflecting on ourselves, others, the world around us, and God. Inspired by our Bible verse – ‘Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth’ (1 John 3:18) – we help children grow in love for themselves, for others, for nature, and for God. Through simple moments of wonder, empathy, and stillness (“wows, ows and nows”), children learn to find meaning, ask big questions and understand their unique place in the world.

School Values

For the first half of the Summer Term, our school value focusses are Thankfulness and Friendship. We will be encouraging the children to notice the many blessings around them, from the beauty of God’s world to the kindness of family, friends and our school community. As the Bible reminds us, “Give thanks in all circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:18), inspiring us all to show gratitude and appreciation in our daily lives. We will also be exploring how friendship helps us to support one another with kindness, loyalty and care, helping our whole school family to love, learn and grow together.

Love In Action

This term, our Love in Action focus is Democracy, a key British Value helping children understand how people have a voice, make decisions, and create fair systems where everyone’s views are respected. We will explore how democracy links to our learning about the Ancient Greeks who developed democratic ideas that still influence us today. At Harbury, this connects to our vision of Courageous Advocacy, where pupils are encouraged to use their voices, listen to others, and take positive action for change in school, community and beyond. We will also link learning to the UN Global Goals, helping children understand how democracy supports fairness, equality and global responsibility.
