What is SMSC?

Spiritual development

Spiritual development provides children with insights, principles, beliefs, attitudes and values which guide and motivate us. It allows us to develop an understanding of feelings and emotions which support reflection and learning.

Moral Development

Moral development is the building, by pupils, of a framework of proper attitudes and behaviours (moral values) which, in turn, regulates their decision making and personal behaviour. It is also about pupil’s understanding of society’s shared and agreed values. Moral development is important in order to gain an understanding of the range of different views and the reasons for them. It also teaches tolerance and how to develop your own opinion on a particular topic while being able to be respectful of differing views to your own.

Social Development

Social development reflects how the school promotes opportunities for our pupils to work effectively with each other and participate successfully in the community. It involves the inter-personal skills for successful relationships and the development of skills and personal qualities necessary for living and working together

Cultural Development

Cultural development is how the school develops a pupil's understanding and respect of differing cultures, beliefs and practices, including their own, and reject discrimination based on difference. It also fosters an eagerness to participate in new experiences and to develop awareness of music, art, dance and literature, etc. in our own culture and different cultures.
