Our Curriculum
The thematic approach of our curriculum ensures coverage of the national curriculum whilst also immersing our children in rich learning opportunities. This process provides our children with the knowledge, skills and understanding to be empowered learners. Whilst our topic-based curriculum is designed to inspire and engage learners, we also recognise the importance to respect individual subject areas. Our offer is underpinned by our school vision of love, learn and grow together which stems from our school bible verse ‘Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth’ 1 John 3:18. We use our love in action to celebrate diversity, the environment, equality, loving yourself and your world-wide neighbour, promoting self-advocacy alongside courageous advocacy.
Even though Harbury is a small village, we want our children to develop their knowledge of the world and global issues. We want our pupils to be global citizens, relish challenges, promote positivity and inclusivity and celebrate previous learning. We aim to challenge stereotypes and provide diverse cultural experiences.
We know that the pupils are on a knowledge journey and we have designed our curriculum to be progressive and link between and within year groups, providing opportunities for retrieval and embedding learning in long-term memory. Learning expands through the topics we have created and makes links back to previous knowledge. Our curriculum echos the thriving village community we have in Harbury with local links woven throughout various topics. We aim for our pupils to be successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.
We want all pupils to be aware of the power of their own voice and to show respect and celebrate differences.
