Physical Education Intent Statement

At Harbury C of E Primary School, we are committed to providing high-quality Physical Education (PE) that promotes the physical, social, and emotional well-being of our pupils. Our PE curriculum is designed to inspire and engage all pupils, fostering a love for physical activity, sports, and a healthy lifestyle.

Our Aims and Objectives

Promoting Physical Fitness:

We aim to ensure that all our pupils develop a strong foundation of physical fitness, allowing them to lead active and healthy lives. We want to instil the value of regular exercise and the positive impact it has on overall well-being.

Inclusivity and Accessibility:

We believe that every child has the right to participate in PE and sports. Our PE lessons are designed to be inclusive, catering to all abilities, and providing opportunities for every child to succeed.

Skill Development:

We are dedicated to developing a wide range of fundamental and advanced skills, including but

not limited to running, jumping, throwing, catching, and team sports. Our aim is to provide a solid

foundation for lifelong participation in physical activities.

Teamwork and Sportsmanship:

Through PE, we aim to nurture essential life skills such as teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship. We want our pupils to appreciate the value of working together and displaying respect, fairness, and integrity on and off the field.

Enjoyment and Engagement:

We want our pupils to find joy and passion in physical activity and sports. We aim to provide a variety of activities and opportunities for pupils to explore their interests and talents.

Healthy Lifestyles:

We are committed to educating our pupils about the importance of making healthy choices regarding diet and exercise. We aim to develop their knowledge and understanding of how physical activity contributes to a healthy lifestyle.

Progression and Achievement:

We provide opportunities for our pupils to set and achieve personal goals in PE. We aim to track their progress, celebrate their achievements, and inspire a lifelong love for physical activity.

Implementation:

Our PE curriculum is designed to be balanced, offering a range of activities, which follows the National Curriculum. We provide 2 hours of lessons for each year group per week. These are structured to build on previous learning and to challenge pupils to improve their skills and understanding.

Enrichment:

We provide opportunities for extracurricular sports clubs, competitions, and links with local sports organisations to enrich the PE experience for our pupils.

Partnerships:

We provide opportunities for our pupils to engage in competitive sports and receive expert coaching from an external sports company.

Impact:

Our PE program aims to produce well-rounded individuals who are physically active, confident, and enthusiastic about leading healthy lifestyles. We aim for our pupils to develop a lifelong love for physical activity and sports.
