Art at Harbury

At Harbury, we believe that creativity is essential, and our art curriculum aims to inspire students to express themselves meaningfully. We introduce children to a variety of artists and architects, both historical and contemporary, encouraging them to appreciate diverse perspectives and artistic styles. Our curriculum is designed to not only build artistic skills but also foster empathy, tolerance, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Art projects at Harbury are carefully sequenced, ensuring children develop skills in generating ideas, making art, evaluating, and understanding the key concepts of art. From Year 1, children use sketchbooks to practice and refine their skills, which helps them build technical proficiency over time. Our approach integrates art with other subjects, such as using art to explore shapes in math or encouraging discussions about their work, enriching their learning experiences across the curriculum.
We regularly assess students' progress to ensure they are appropriately supported and challenged. Assessments inform future lessons and identify any gaps in learning. By the end of the year, we report to parents on their child’s progress, celebrating their individual growth and creative achievements.
Artist of the month At the start of each worship we explore with the children a different piece of art as part of our Artist and Musician of the month.
